The challenge
Boots wanted to build genuine productivity and wellbeing habits across a huge, varied workforce, not just at head office, but across pharmacy, retail operations, IT, marketing, trading and opticians. That kind of reach is hard to do well. A programme that works for a leadership team doesn’t automatically work for a pharmacy team, and one that lands with IT doesn’t automatically land with retail ops.
What we did
Since 2019, we’ve delivered a mix of 90-minute and 3-hour The Way of the Productivity Ninja workshops for Boots, plus follow-up Ninja Clinics to keep momentum going. Nine different teams have taken part, from First Line Leaders and the Extended Leadership Team to Pharmacy, Trading, and Opticians Area Managers, 960 colleagues in total.
From nearly 700 post-session survey responses, 94% rated their session 4 or 5 out of 5, and 90% said they’d recommend it to a colleague.
What people told us
The feedback pointed to something beyond satisfaction scores, a genuine shift in how people felt permitted to work.
“Being given ‘permission’ to nurture my best working self was a revelation. I won’t worry about being constantly available and accessible anymore.”
“It has helped me realise that not everything is urgent, and to take a step back and breathe.”
“This workshop provided me with the clarity and space to understand how I’m currently feeling at work and how to overcome it. I loved it, and it reminded me that I do a lot of this stuff already, but stress had made me forget.”
Several colleagues specifically valued the sense of shared permission, not just personal tips, but confidence that changing how they worked was genuinely backed by the business.
“How it gave me the licence to do the things I’ve wanted to do for a while but believed I couldn’t due to work culture, but evidently this is changing, and so will I.”
The results
94% of participants rated their session 4 or 5 out of 5
90% would recommend the session to a colleague
98% rated their Productivity Ninja facilitator 4 or 5 out of 5
What this means for you
Boots’ story shows what’s possible when a productivity programme is built to flex, the same core approach landing with a pharmacy team, a leadership team, and everyone in between, not a one-size-fits-all session hoping it works for everyone.
If your organisation spans different departments, seniority levels or working environments, that’s not a reason to hold off on training. It’s exactly the kind of challenge this approach is built for.
