The Year-End Attention Reset

A 10‑Minute Guide to Help You Make Space to Think

By December, most teams aren’t running on lack of time. They’re running on lack of space. Decisions pile up. Priorities blur. Everyone is operating from a cramped mental inbox.

This short guide helps you clear the noise so you can enter 2026 with clarity, calm and a bit more control.

Step 1: Empty Your Head

Sit somewhere quiet with a sheet of paper. Write down everything that currently holds your attention.

Not tasks. Not goals.

Attention.

Things you’re worried about. Things that feel unfinished. Conversations you keep rehearsing. Promises you’ve made. Work you’ve avoided. Ideas you’re carrying.

Capture it all. Don’t organise yet.

Step 2: Sort by Power

Look at the list with a simple question:

Which items genuinely need your attention, and which are only taking it?

Mark with:

  • C for items you can Cancel
  • D for items you can Delegate
  • S for items you can Shrink (reduce the scope)
  • F for items you will Focus on before year‑end

Step 3: Choose One Thing to Finish

From the items marked F, circle the one that will create the most relief if completed before the year ends.

Not the biggest. Not the most impressive. The one that frees the most attention.

Commit to a single next action and write it down plainly. Something you can do, not something you can “think about”.

Step 4: Close Something

Now choose one meeting, ongoing commitment, report, check‑in, or recurring task you can close, hand over or pause.

Finishing creates clarity. Closing creates space.

Step 5: Protect One Thinking Block

Add one 30‑minute block to your calendar titled Space to Think.

This is not time to catch up. It’s time to step back.

Use it to review your list, clear your head, and decide what deserves your attention next.

Treat it as non‑negotiable.
